Olympic Seasons are always long and hard, this one (our Curling Academies 4th Olympic Games of Coaching and pre Olympic event organizing) was our biggest and best yet. Sochi was magnificent and in the lead up from August through to the games we ran an enormous amount of Russian Training programs and International Pre Olympic Competitions at our Academy Training center in Kussnacht am Rigi.
The Olympic preparations culminated excitingly with the Multi Nation Pre Olympic Trainings and test matches between January 31 and February 4 – after which the 4 participating teams travelled directly to Sochi to compete in the 2014 Olympic Winter Games.
Participating teams were Russian Men (Drozdov), USA Men (Shuster), USA Women (Pottinger) and the Canadian Women (Jennifer Jones, Olympic Champions 2014).
We at the Curling Academy want to congratulate Coach Jean Pierre, our leading Five Element of Technique Instructor, and his Zug II Team for qualifying for the Swiss Final. This Team has progressed consistently in their first year together under the guidance of Jean Pierre and the Academy. We wish Mario, Sven, Stephan and Rainer a successful week in Gstaad – February 16 – 23, 2013
To meet the increasing demand for high quality International qualified Instructors and Coaches the Curling Academy Rodger Schmidt has trained and integrated Wolfgang Burba, of Oberstdorf, Germany in to the fold.
We are happy to report that the first assignment for Wolfgang has been a tremendous success.
Wolfgang Burba coached the Italian National Junior Men’s Team to victory in the European Junior Championship and with that success qualified the Italian Juniors for the 2013 World Championship in Sochi in February. We at the Curling Academy are very proud of this result, particularly due to the accelerated training coaching training process that was required to qualify him as an Academy Coach – having joined the staff only in November 2012.
We wish Wolfgang and the Italian Junior Men success in the 2013 World Junior and are pleased to have him on board in the Academy.
The Russian Men Team coached by Academy Director Rodger Schmidt have finished in the top 8 in the last two CCT tournaments that they have participated in. In Perth in mid January they lost a quarterfinal match to Norway’s Ulsrud and now in Hamburg they again reached the money round, only to be bested by Snitil of the Czech Republic in the quarterfinal. Hopefully, this is a sign of further progress as the Russia Men prepare for their first ever World Championship appearance.
Perhaps even more encouraging is the success of the Russian Junior Men, also under the guidance of Academy Director Rodger Schmidt, who reached the quarter finals as well in Hamburg where they were defeated by Scotland’s recent National Team skipped by David Murdoch. Murdoch went on to win the tournament, while The Russian Juniors go on preparing for the Sochi World Junior Championship at the end of February.
Both Russian teams will be training at the Academy in Kussnacht am Rigi from February 14 on.
The Curling Academy Rodger Schmidt is hosting trainings for the Russian Men National Team preparing for the 2013 World Men Championship in Victoria, Canada and the Russian Junior Men National Team preparing for the 2013 World Junior Championship in Sochi, Russia
We will be training in Kussnacht am Rigi between February 14 and March 11, 2013 – and during this time we would like to schedule training games with local teams. Please contact the Curling Academy to arrange a time for your team, or contact Coach Rodger Schmidt directly, firstname.lastname@example.org – +41 76 375 7878.
National Calibre Athlete:
I just wanted to let you know that the elements of delivery doc is so freaking awesome.
I have been working with Wally for a year and after reading this more things are clicking in my head.
I want to organize a trip with my team to come and work with you in the summer.
Olympic Coach Vancouver 2012:
I just completed a complete study of the book. Each element, each page, paragraph and sentence. I did lots of highlighting and notes with the idea of teaching from it. When I first read it last fall, I thought it was a very comprehensive procedural book on the curling delivery. After my study of each concept that Rodger detailed within each principal of every Element, I found that the information and his method of explanation is truly amazing! My hat is off to him and to you as well – What a piece of work!
I hope to use my study of the manual at the GB Jr camp this summer.
